Transport for London (TfL), in light of the significant
investment towards Travel Plan development, recognised that a standardised approach
to Travel Plan management was a prerequisite in order for the sector to progress
and validate the worthiness of Travel Plans. For far too long the ad hoc approach
to securing, approving, monitoring and enforcing Travel Plans has resulted in a
missed opportunity to quantify their undoubted benefits, thus restricting the funding
and development opportunities for the sector as a whole.
As part of a London wide Travel Plan protocol approach,
TfL have invested in iTRACE – a Travel Plan Management Application.
By ensuring that a robust, standardised approach, to the whole Travel Plan process,
is applied iTRACE will for the very first time allow like for like comparisons on
Travel Plan data – from one year to the next, from one organisation to the next,
from one borough/LA to the next.
iTRACE enables the user to effectively project manage
each and every Travel Plan entered into it with minimum effort. Putting the onus of
responsibility onto the owner of the travel plan – it removes the need for individual bespoke
spreadsheets and alleviates the requirement to trawl through paper files. A key aspect of
iTRACE is that it gives value to the work undertaken by Planning/Dev Control Units in
securing the Travel Plans by providing the platform to ensure they meet their objectives
through effective data collection, monitoring and review processes.
iTRACE has been developed by iBase Systems Ltd over the last 4 years with the support of
WESTTRANS and funding from Transport for London.
WESTTRANS is a pro-active Transport Partnership consisting of six West London Boroughs
(Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow) working with West London Business,
West London Alliance, Park Royal Partnership and other key stakeholders towards a shared vision
for transport policy, planning and delivery in West London.
Headquartered in London, iBase Systems Ltd (iBase) is a UK leader in the development
and delivery of software solutions that streamline the collection and distribution of data,
increase productivity and deliver cost savings, improved customer service and enhanced management
control. Trading since 1999, iBase has developed a range of applications that use proven
software system designs and innovative mobile technologies to help public sector
organisations unite operational data collection requirements and make it readily accessible to
the people that need it, regardless of the data source, the user location and their
technical ability. In addition to iTRACE Web, iBase is best known for its forms and maps based
software suite designed for hand held computers.
TfL was created in 2000 as the integrated body responsible for the Capital's
transport system. The primary role of TfL, which is a functional body of the
Greater London Authority, is to implement the Mayor of London's Transport Strategy
and manage transport services across the Capital.
TfL is responsible for a 580km network of main roads and all of London's 4,600
traffic lights. In addition, TfL manages the central London Congestion Charging
scheme and regulate the city's taxis and private hire trade. TfL also promotes a
range of walking and cycling initiatives across the Capital.
